Altered Carbon
Richard K. Morgan, 2002, Sci-fi
This, Morgan's first novel, is essentially a film noir/murder mystery set in the future. There's a whole lot of sex and violence. There are some rough edges to it—some of the supporting characters are not that believable, for one. Despite the flaws, this book is worth reading, if only for the look at how greatly extended life spans would affect human society and culture.
This book has 2 sequels, Broken Angels and Woken Furies. Morgan had a plan to write a bunch of novels featuring Takeshi Kovacs, but since Woken Furies wasn't that popular, there may not be any more sequels coming out.
